HOW TO MAKE WOODGRAIN EFFECT IN A FURNITURE USING WOOD STAIN?

Nowadays it is very common that we have in our houses some furniture, chair or even surface to which we would like to give a new appearance.

What if we could improve them by giving them a woodgrain effect?

Wood stain is the solution. Let’s learn how we should apply it. The wood stain can be applied both indoors and outdoors furniture.

Thanks to the brush you use, you can achieve a woodgrain-like effect with a natural and weather-resistant appearance.

How to apply a wood stain to obtain the woodgrain effect?

These are the steps to obtain an optimal woodgrain effect with wood stain

1. As always before starting to apply any product, the surface must be completely clean, degreased, and sanded with a suitable tool (unless it is a porous material). Where necessary, a solvent can be used to remove any dirt.

2. If it is a chest of drawers, a door, or any multi-piece support, it is advisable to remove all objects that may cross the path of the brush.

3. Before applying the woodgrain effect stain, you should always use the primer that corresponds to the surface you are going to paint. On difficult surfaces, first, check that the primer has adhered well.

4. Apply a paint base as a background (can be water base latex or oil-base paint)

NOTE: May sure you sand it out the surface to get rid of any dirt or dust particles that can interfere in complete the job stain.

5. The brush that we must use should be about 7 centimeters wide (but you decide the right size depending on your furniture size), to spread the stain more easily. You can also use a roller, depending on the type of surface you want to use.

6. Spread the first coat of stain looking for the grain to run to the longest side. Afterward, remove some of the stains for its perfect woodgrain effect homogenization.

7. To get a better wood appearance you have to make long strokes, giving continuity to the grain.

NOTE:  Let it dry for about 24 hours and then apply a second coat of woodgrain effect stain, but slightly lighter if you really need it.

8. You can use different stain colors to help create a more authentic wood grain effect.

9. You can trace veins by creating knots with the trowel, or exaggerate them using a trimmed brush. Mark the strokes by waving the blade and creating parallel streaks. To do this, you should not add more stain than is already applied.

NOTE: After the stain is completely dry and between coats use a very fine wet-sand paper to make a very smooth surface.

10. Apply the finish you desire lacquer, urethane, or oil (tung, danish linseed, teak, etc), tung oil is my favorite finish product.
